Outreach Sandzak 2:
Countering extremist ideologies

Novi Pazar, 22 - 23 August 2014

Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia organized a panel discussion with youth, whose topic was countering extremist ideologies. After the lectures, 25 participants had the opportunity to talk to local police about the influence of extremism on the local community.

Historian Milivoj Beslin gave a lecture about historical revisionism as the basis for extremist ideologies and right-wing extremism among young people. President of the Sandzak Committee for Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms, Semiha Kacar, talked about human rights and tolerance in the local community. Sociologist Srdjan Barisic gave a lecture about religious extremism and right-wing ideologies.

Panel discussion is part of the project supported by the US Embassy and implemented by HCHRS and Novi Pazar Youth Group of HCHRS. After the panel discussion, participants will organize a public event which will create opportunity for dialogue on anti-extremist themes. In addition to Novi Pazar, panel discussions will also be organized in Prijepolje, Sjenica and Tutin.
