Police Torture at

The Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia appeals to the Ministry of the Interior to immediately investigate the authenticity of the video clip placed at Youtube.come that clearly shows illegal use of force against a younger man in a police station. The Helsinki Committee requests the Ministry to determine identities of the persons involved, the date of the incident and the exact location of the said police station. If the recording itself is authentic, it is a textbook example of torture that is punishable under domestic legislation. In that case the Committee calls on the Ministry to immediately take all necessary steps against perpetrators.

In the days to come the Committee will be closely following the developments related to this case, the more so since ill-treatment of persons taken into custody is still among the biggest problems challenging the prevention of torture.
